This paper present the case of an integrated operation for the organic production and marketing of Organic beef. The project shows how it is possible to integrate beef production involving numerous persons and organizations maintaining a good management and supervision.
The strategy developed by ECO Pampa and Argencert was to integrate a group of cattle ranchers with a team of professional consultants and a certification organization to manage the project from farm to market.
The various steps involved in the process include the productive stage, health management, transportation, slaughter, quality control and the overall certification process are presented and the responsibilities at each stage are detailed with regards to isolation from conventional production, identification of cattle, sanitary treatments, feeds and sampling for residue analysis.
On animal health management the principles applied by the project management are detailed and explained as to the special characteristics of farm management in Argentina.
The certification process is also explained as it applies to this project and an outline of the various steps taken to ensure fulfillment with the standards are explained
The relationship between the organizations involved and the authorities that supervise the Organic Certification in Argentina is explained as well as the recognition of the Certificate in various countries.
