The Tree of Life. A Philosophy of Ecology and Nature. P2;5

Bagger, U. S.

Søborg Parkallé 206, DK-2860 Søborg, Denmark

»The Tree of Life« is a sculptural model illustrating a philosophy of ecology and nature. A description of reality, uniting science and art, man and nature, intellect and emotion, life and culture.
The basic realization: Ecological initiatives will rise to the occasion only if profound cultural changes occur simultaneously: If we want clear water, fresh air, fertile soil and a peaceful life, these items must be a top priority - we have to make them part of our culture.
The basic vision: A unification of the basis of life and the basis of culture. The basic practice: By means of idioms of art and figurative language it is illustrated how we can endowe our basis of life with the possibility of being more present in our conscience - and thus in our doings - in our everyday life as well as in the rites of the year and the solemn occasions of life. The unification of life and culture implies that the basic symbols of life are given an organic placing within the various religous rituals. Water in connection with christening and winter solstice, air in connection with confirmation and spring festival, fire in connection with wedding and summer solstice, earth in connection with funerals and harvest festival - the Tree of Life being the unifying feature.
The Tree of Life is the factor which unfolds and stabilizes the properties of the elements, thereby providing the best of protection against their devastating fury and disastrous changes of climate.
To-day, young people, on a worldwide basis, tend to acquire a uniform culture pattern. It is, therefore, of the utmost importance that this culture is viable - and respects the UN convention on children's rights.
